Peter H. Smith, Professor of Music Theory, has been appointed editor-in-chief of Music Theory Spectrum (Oxford University Press). The position takes effect in July, 2020. Regarding the significance of this appointment, department chairperson Peter Jeffery writes:

"For 40 years, Music Theory Spectrum has been the leading journal for Music Theory research. It publishes articles about all kinds of classical and popular music from all over the world and every historical period. The choice of Peter Smith as editor for the next three years is a recognition of his abilities to manage the heavy workload, to collaborate with authors in many countries, and--most importantly--to make sound judgments about scholarly excellence, about which submitted articles are most deserving of publication in the field's flagship journal. It also shows that Notre Dame has arrived on the map of universities where the best current research about music is fostered and taught. That benefits all our students."

Congratulations to Professor Smith on this, the latest in his many scholarly and administrative accomplishments!
