Biography

Jim Catalano is both a percussionist and music industry business professional.  Jim earned his BS in Music Ed from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1975 and his Masters from The University of Notre Dame in 1977.  At ND, Jim also served from 1975 – 1977 as the Graduate Assistant Band Director for the marching, concert and jazz bands. 

Catalano has been a clinician multiple times at The Midwest Clinic, Texas Music Educators Association, American Band College, Lionel Hampton Jazz Fest and several state MEA events.  Jim was also part of Conn-Selmer Institute as a clinician from 1998 – 2019.  Jim coordinated the Educational Student Workshops for the Elkhart Jazz Fest also.  

Jim remains an active performer on both drums and vibes.  He is the drummer with Truth in Jazz, Jazz Assemblage, French Quarter and The Notre Dame Faculty Jazz Trio.  Jim is a percussionist with The Elkhart Municipal Band as well as The Elkhart Symphony.   Jim also plays vibes with his own quartet called, VibeNation.
