The fall semester saw the Department of Music welcome two eminent pianists to campus. Victor Rosenbaum, the greatly esteemed longtime faculty member of the New England Conservatory,

Students Zhengyi Zhang, Joanne Kim and Alex Ju with visiting pianist Stephen Hough

offered two masterclasses, and Stephen Hough presented a residency as the Nanovic Institute for European Studies Visiting Artist. One of the most prominent pianists of our day, he performed a recital of masterworks by Beethoven, Debussy, and Schumann, and the next morning guided students in a masterclass of works by Beethoven, Prokofiev and Liszt. The Department of Music has a long tradition of bringing leading guest pianists and pedagogues to campus to lend their expertise. The list includes such luminaries as Leon Fleisher, Jerome Lowenthal, and Tatiana Yampolsky.
