Piano Professor's Whirlwind Season

Piano professor John Blacklow’s busy 2023-24 concert season featured appearances on the Chicago Symphony Chamber Series (piano quartets of Mozart and Brahms), Rochester Chamber Music Society, Palm Springs Friends of the Philharmonic, California Festival of New Music (West Coast premiere of “Diaspora” by Billy Childs), and several performances the on the Masterworks Series of the San Diego Symphony, including Stravinsky's "Firebird" (entire ballet score), Bartok's "Miraculous Mandarin" suite, and John Adams' "Short Ride In A Fast Machine", as well as works by Ravel, Ginastera, and Orff. He was invited to present masterclasses at Tanglewood (Massachusetts) and the Frost School of Music in at the University of Miami, as well as concerts at Pomona College (California) and Seattle Pacific University (Washington). At the University of California, San Diego, he performed the piano solos from the original score to Star Trek (2009) in a commemoration moderated by Academy Award winning film composer Michael Giacchino, which included appearances by Star Trek stars George Takei and John Cho.
