ND Pianists Win 1st and 3rd Prizes in Charles Joray Competition

One March 23 two Notre Dame pianists, James Bennett '25 and Arda Kurama '27, competed with undergraduate pianists statewide in the finals of the Charles Joray Piano Competition and were awarded 1st place and 3rd place respectively. The prize includes a substantial cash award. Usually held at Butler University, this year the competition took place at the Phillippe Performing Arts Center at Indiana Wesleyan University.

James, a junior honors major in piano performance, played Chopin's Ballade No. 1 in G minor and Clementi's Sonata Op. 24 No. 2 in B-flat major, and Arda performed Scriabin's Sonata No. 4 and Moszkowski's Etude in F major Op. 72 No. 6.
