Music Major Triumphs in Piano Competition in China

Zhengyi Zhang, class of '18, was awarded first prize in the Franz Liszt Piano Competition in China, held in Shanghai in preparation for the Liszt International Competition in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

Chosen from a field of 70 semifinalists, she will advance to the next stage of the competition in Utrecht.  Her repertoire included Liszt's "La leggierezza" from Trois Etudes de Concert, and his Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12.  Zhengyi was also chosen to participate this summer in the piano program at the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado, and in the fall of 2018 will attend the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, as a student in the Master of Music degree program in piano performance.
