Professor Patrick Yim's new album New Waves was released on December 23, 2023, by Albany Records.

New Waves,
a collection that includes eight world premiere recordings, is the most comprehensive and wide-ranging album of Chinese solo string works to date. Encompassing music by two generations of contemporary Chinese composers, including celebrated voices of xinchao (new wave) music alongside emerging composers, the featured works are inspired by global literature, the tonal Mandarin and Cantonese languages, Chinese folk culture and instruments, and the soundscape of Hong Kong. Moving beyond the Orientalist outlook of past European composers, the collection showcases a growing diversity of influences and cultures–examples of music’s developing global heterogeneity.

The album features music by Chen Yi, Zhou Long, Qu Xiao-song, Fung Lam, Angel Lam, Austin Yip, and Chan Kai-Young, and performances by Patrick Yim (violin & viola) and Born Lau (viola).
