Paul Appleby, an internationally renowned tenor, is in the midst of a run at the Metropolitan Opera playing the role of Caesar (Augustus) in the important contemporary opera by John Adams, “Antony and Cleopatra,” based on the Shakespeare play. Between now and the end of 2025, Appleby will sing 18 performances at the storied Met, one of the most iconic stages in the world. In addition to Caesar, he will take on the role of Don Ottavio in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” and as well as Tamino in Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.” Appleby is a 2005 alumnus of Notre Dame, where he double majored in Music and English. He then went on to graduate studies at The Juilliard School before joining the Met’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. He made his Met debut in 2011 in the role of Brighella in “Ariadne auf Naxos,” and has since sung many roles with the company. He now appears at many of the major opera houses, as well soloing with the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, and many others.
