Biography
Jon Bullock is an ethnomusicologist whose research centers on Kurdish music, sound technologies (such as recording and broadcasting), and colonial power in twentieth and twenty-first century Iraq. He earned his PhD at the University of Chicago in 2022 and was a Postdoctoral Associate at Yale University's Institute for Sacred Music in 2022-23. His broader research interests include Kurdish musical practice, sacred music traditions of the Middle East, decolonial theory, and radio/media studies. He has presented his research at annual meetings of the Society for Ethnomusicology, the American Musicological Society, the Canadian Society for Traditional Music, and the Middle East Studies Association. His work has also appeared in DeGruyter's recently published Essays on Modern Kurdish Literature, as well as in the journal world of music (new series) and the journal for the International Association for the Study of Popular Music.
