Carolyn Plummer, Associate Professor of Music at the University of Notre Dame and violinist of the Notre Dame String Trio, holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from Indiana University and a Master of Music Degree with Honors in Violin Performance from the New England Conservatory, where she was a student of Joseph Silverstein and Charles Treger. Ms. Plummer held the titled position of Assistant Concertmaster of the Houston Symphony from 1977 through 1986, having joined the orchestra in 1974. She was a frequent soloist with the Houston Symphony, as well as an active recitalist and member of Houston’s chamber ensemble, Cambiata Soloists. From 1986-1989, Ms. Plummer was a professor at the University of Florida, violinist of the Florida Arts Trio and a member of the acclaimed chamber ensemble, Atlanta Virtuosi, which performed extensively in the United States, Europe and Mexico. Ms. Plummer has served as Concertmaster of the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra and has been a guest artist in the “Strings in the Mountains” Chamber Music Festival in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Garth Newel Chamber Music Series, and the Fontana Music Festival. Other festivals include the International Musikdorf Masterclasses in Ernen, Switzerland, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Atlanta Virtuosi Chamber Music Festival at Bates College. Concert broadcasts include NPR, Boston WGBH, New York WNET, Los Angeles PBS, South Bend WNIT, and "The Studs Terkel Show" on Chicago's WFMT. In 1970, she was awarded 2nd place in the Coleman Chamber Music Competition in Pasadena, California. Additional teachers have included Urico Rossi, Raphael Bronstein, Dorothy Delay, and chamber music studies with William Primrose and members of the Juilliard, Cleveland, Yale, and Berkshire Quartets. Ms. Plummer and the Notre Dame String Trio gave its New York debut performance to critical acclaim at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, playing compositions from the 20th century. The Trio has recorded the complete Hindemith String Trios, and works by David Diamond with pianist Ralph Votapek on Centaur Records. Ms. Plummer served on the AMT Editorial Committee - The Official Journal of Music Teachers National Association from 1999-2002.
