Stephanie Ng received her doctorate in Musicology and Ethnomusicology from the University of Michigan in 2006.  Her dissertation examines the role of Filipino entertainers as purveyors of global culture and music in Asia.  Her research interest include the music of Southeast Asia and China, and the Filipino, Chinese and Indian diasporas, as well as western popular music, fusion music and music in advertising.  She has presented papers at national and international conferences such as the Symposium of the International Musicological Society in Melbourne, Australia, and the Seventh International Conference of Philippine Studies in Leiden, the Netherlands. Her essay “Performing the ‘Filipino’ at The Crossroads: Filipino Bands in Five-Star Hotels Throughout Asia” was published in the Modern Drama journal by the University of Toronto Press in 2005.   

Ng directs the Chinese percussion ensemble at Notre Dame and directs and arranges music for the All God's Children Community Chorus of Southwest Michigan. She also plays the piano at St. Joseph Catholic Church, located in St. Joseph, Michigan.

Ng has been the recipient of several awards, including the Rackham Dissertation Fellowship (2005), the Rackham Humanities Research Candidacy Award Fellowship (2003), and the Regents Fellowship (2000). She also directed the choir at St. Xavier's Institution and served as organist at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Penang, Malaysia.
