Baritone Stephen Lancaster is quickly establishing himself as a gifted young artist and teacher of singing. He has performed roles with University of Michigan Opera Theater, the Motor City Lyric Opera, Great Lakes Lyric Opera, Arbor Opera Theater, Notre Dame Opera, and the American Musical Institute for Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. His oratorio appearances include Haydn’s “Harmoniemesse,” Handel’s “Messiah,” and Haydn’s “Lord Nelson Mass” with the South Bend Symphony. Indulging his passion for song literature, he has appeared frequently on song recitals, including a program of French mélodies in collaboration with Martin Katz. Also an accomplished church musician, he has performed sacred concerts and conducted church music workshops both in the United States and France, and has served most recently as the Minister of Music at St. Matthew’s & St. Joseph’s Epsicopal Church in Detroit.
Recent activities have included singing in masterclasses for Graham Johnson at Songfest as well as performing in the west coast premiere of John Musto’s new work “The Book of Uncommon Prayer.” He will appear in a televised production of “The Old Maid and the Thief” this fall and in 2009 will sing again with South Bend Symphony as the baritone soloist in Fauré’s “Requiem.”
