Scott Kurtzweil is a native of Muskegon, Michigan. He received his B.M. degree in clarinet performance in 1991 from Western Michigan University where he was a student of Bradley Wong. He received his M.M. in clarinet performance in 1997 under the mentorship of Michael Rusinek.
As a soloist and chamber musician, Mr. Kurtzweil has performed throughout the U.S. from Washington D.C. to Los Angeles. Locally, he is a substitute/extra musician with the South Bend, Southwestern Michigan and Kalamazoo Symphonies and is engaged as a soloist, recitalist and clinician thoughout the Chicago / Northern Indiana and Western Michigan regions. Named a Yamaha Performing Artist in 2004, Mr. Kurtzweil will be staging a major solo Yamaha sponsored event in October of 2005. This event, entitled Benny's Gig, will feature music written for or commissioned by Benny Goodman.
In addition to his performing responsibilities, Mr. Kurtzweil serves as Instructor of Clarinet at The University of Notre Dame, Andrews University, and Lake Michigan College. Prior to his positions at these schools, he served on the faculties of Kalamazoo College and was contracted to teach summer music programs at Western Michigan University.
