AnneMarie Dawson received her Bachelor's of Arts in Music degree from Fredonia State University in New York, and studied for her Master's Degree at Indiana University, where she was a student of James Pellerite. Further flute studies have been with Robert Willoughby, Walfrid Kujala, Elaine Shaffer and Tom Nyfenger. She was selected to perform in masterclasses with Jean-Pierre Rampal and Robert Willougby. As an orchestral musician, she is a member of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra (flute and piccolo), and a past member of the Kalamazoo Symphony (1987-2004, 3rd flute/piccolo), Southwest Michigan Symphony (1982-1995, 3rd flute/piccolo), Elkhart County Symphony (Principal Flute) and Jamestown Philharmonic (Principal Flute). An active chamber musician as a member of the flute/harp duo, "Just Duet", and as a member of the Morrow Trio (Flute, violin, cello), she has presented recitals both as a soloist and with the flute/harp duo throughout Indiana, and has performed as a concerto soloist in the Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto.
Ms. Dawson is the founder/director of the Sagwa Valley Flute Association and Flute Choir which presents 5-10 concerts per season, including an annual performance of pre-concert and intermission music for the South Bend Symphony's Sugarplum's and Symphony Pops! concert. The flute choir has also been featured performers at flute symposiums at Indiana University at South Bend and Goshen College. An Emerson Artist, Ms. Dawson has presented masterclasses in the Mid-West and in the East.
As an educator, Ms. Dawson has taught instrumental music for the South Bend Community School Corporation and The Montessori Academy at Edison Lakes. She has served as Visiting Lecturer at Saint Mary's College, and as flute instructor for Bethel College. At Notre Dame, she has taught flute and directed the Flute Choir. Maintaining a large private flute studio, her students have been selected as members of the Indiana All-State Orchestra and Bands numerous times, serving often as Principal Flute. Many of her students have been accepted as flute majors at such prestigious music institutions as the Eastman School of Music, Indiana University, Oberlin College, Michigan State, University of Michigan, Bowling Green University (graduate school), the Tanglewood Institute, and the Aspen Music Festival.
