The Schola Musicorum was formed in 1993 by members of the Department of Music to study and perform Gregorian Chant directly from medieval manuscripts. Seventeenth-century German composer Dieterich Buxtehude used the term Abend-Musique, coined by his predecessor, to refer to his late-afternoon recitals in the Marienkirche in Lübeck. The German-French name means literally "Evening-Music."
Each year the Schola Musicorum presents one concert in the fall and one concert in the spring in the Organ Hall within the Marie DeBartolo Center for the Performing Arts.
