Each year, Notre Dame students continue the tradition of generations of students before them by participating in one or more campus ensembles.
The Department of Music offers opportunities from the oldest college marching band in the country--the Band of the Fighting Irish--to the recently reinvigorated Opera program, Opera Notre Dame. Many students share their talents by participating in liturgy through ensembles offered through Campus Ministry.
Every current and prospective music major is expected to participate in a departmentally approved ensemble every semester at Notre Dame. Auditions are held the week before classes begin; sign-up sheets are posted in Crowley Hall.
However, you need not be a music major to participate in any of the following ensembles. Participation is open to any Notre Dame or Saint Mary's College student through auditions.
The Notre Dame Bands include the Marching Band, Concert Bands and University Band, Jazz Bands and New Orleans Brass Band, the Varsity Band, and Chamber Ensembles.
